Open Call

Open Call for External Editors

PARSE (Platform for Artistic Research Sweden) is an online international artistic research publishing platform based in The Artistic Faculty at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden. PARSE publishes open access research and organises events which facilitate dialogue, publication and open peer review. Our multidisciplinary content aims to address academics, artists and art audiences who are curious about the contribution of research to the arts, and the contribution of the arts to knowledge-making. As an exclusively digital platform, our purpose is to foster, publish and archive research across international contexts. PARSE aims for an openness towards content and format and provides resources to experiment with these in the editorial process. PARSE is run by a small working group who are interested in developing and learning through working with external editors.

PARSE invites submissions for external editors to propose content for a journal issue. Two proposals will be selected, one to be published in Autumn 2027 and one in Spring 2028. We are looking for proposals which collapse clear subject and disciplinary distinctions and demonstrate a desire to allow different knowledge forms to meet. We wish to work with editors who think of publishing not only as a form of dissemination but as a process through which forms of writing as well as themes are experimented with. We invite interested applicants to look through previous PARSE issues as well as our guidelines on article format, as the working group is particularly interested in proposals that expand the thematic reach of the journal and put forward article formats which contribute to the development of the field of artistic research.

Editors are asked to sign a publishing contract with PARSE, which outlines editorial expectations, namely:

  • that editors are expected to deliver a complete issue, ready for publication, by the agreed upon deadline.
  • that if editors cannot meet the deadline, the PARSE working group reserves the right to revise or cancel the agreement.

It is expected that editors operate independently on issues, in dialogue with the Editor-in-Chief and Coordinator. Editors are responsible for communication with issue contributors. A discretionary budget will be made available to Editors for the development and delivery of the issue, which must be used according to the rules and regulations of the University of Gothenburg. Please view our guidelines for further information.

The timeline for the Autumn 2027 issue is as follows

  • Development of issue content: June 2026-January 2027
  • Editorial Review of issue content: January 2027
  • Final Contributions due: March 2027
  • Peer Review: April-June 2027
  • Copy editing: June-September 2027
  • Formatting and Production: September-October 2027
  • Launch: November 2027

The timeline for the Spring 2028 issue is as follows:

  • Development of issue content: June 2026-September 2027
  • Editorial Review of issue content: September 2027
  • Final Contributions due: November 2027
  • Peer Review: December 2027- February 2028
  • Copy editing: February-March 2028
  • Formatting and Production: March-April 2028
  • Launch: May 2028

Please note, both timelines may be subject to amendment.

In our assessment of proposals, we will be paying attention to:

  • novelty and contemporary relevance
  • alignment with PARSE
  • feasibility
  • competency of editorial team

The working group, composed of four faculty members as well as the Editor-in-Chief and Coordinator, will read the proposals and make a shortlist. After the preliminary screening and shortlisting, the Editor-in-Chief will get in touch with the shortlisted editors if there is a need for further information.

Proposals are accepted by this google form link only. Proposals sent via other means, including email or social media, will not be considered.

We aim to inform those selected proposals by the end of May 2026. If you have not been notified by 15th June 2026, you can assume your proposal has not been accepted for this round. Unfortunately, we do not have the capacity to offer feedback on those proposals not accepted.

Please address any enquiries to parse@konst.gu.se

We look forward to reading your proposals!
