Andrea Ancira

Andrea Ancira is an editor, curator, and cultural organizer based between Mexico City, Guatemala City and Vienna. Her research and practice sit at the intersection of archival work, editing, and translation, which she uses to explore how collective memory, identity, and historical narratives are underpinned by power structures. Born in Mexico City to a family of Guatemalan exiles, her engagement with the politics of translation and memory is deeply informed by her family’s experiences of displacement and return following Guatemala’s long counterinsurgency war. Since 2017, she has co-directed Tumbalacasa Ediciones, transfeminist editorial project that approaches publishing as a collaborative and experimental space for study, translation, and relation. Her curatorial and editorial work unfolds as an exercise in collective imagination, companionship, and the co-production of meaning. She is currently pursuing the PhD in Practice at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna.
