Jack Bowman
Jack Bowman is a historian of anti-colonial visual culture and is currently a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at University of the Arts London and Teaching Fellow at the University of Warwick. They recently co-curated the ‘Cold War and ‘Other’ Narratives’ exhibition which opened at Dilston Grove in early 2026, and their recent book, Writing against Empire (Bloomsbury, 2026), unpacked the malleable networks of anti-colonial publishing in 1930s and 1940s London. They have previously written upon the editorial career of Indian independence activist V. K. Krishna Menon (The Historical Journal, 2023) and the 1930s Pan-African journals overseen by Guyanese activist Ras T. Makonnen (Transactions of the Royal Historical Society, 2025), and they recently acted as the academic adviser on the IWM North Big Picture Show installation ‘The Roads We Walked’. They are currently working on a new book project focusing on the ‘feeling’ of solidarity within cross-imperial anti-colonial activism in early twentieth-century Europe.
