Nicky Coutts

Dr Nicky Coutts is an artist, researcher and writer, and Research Lead in the School of Fine Art at The Glasgow School of Art. Her work explores how humans affect species diversity and the environment, focusing on cross-species interactions as ways of rethinking coexistence. Through drawing and writing, she examines how language upholds dominant narratives and how these can be unsettled through working with “oddkin” (Haraway). Employing queer and feminist methods, Coutts experiments with inclusion and mimetic exchange between art and politics, exploring adaptive relationships with other species. Her outputs include drawing, moving image, photography, print, sculpture and experimental writing. She is part of a fictions collective developing interspecies queer scripting across publishing and exhibiting. Showing internationally, Coutts is represented by Danielle Arnaud Contemporary Art, London, and continues to collaborate with scientists, linguists and performers to explore fabulation’s transformative potential in art and ecological thinking. www.nickycoutts.com
